Dispositivi di Memorizzazione di Massa
In un sistema informatico, per memoria di massa si intende quel tipo di memoria, detta anche secondaria, in grado di raccogliere, all'opposto della memoria principale, grandi quantità di dati in modalità non volatile. Il dispositivo di memoria usato a tale scopo deve, pertanto, essere in grado di mantenere la disponibilità dei dati memorizzati anche successivamente alla propria disconnessione dal sistema principale, nonché successivamente allo spegnimento/riavvio del sistema stesso.
Dispositivi informatici di tal genere sono i dischi fissi (hard disk), i supporti ottici/rimovibili quali CD, DVD, BlueRay e Phase-Change, le unità facenti uso di supporti di tipo magnetico a nastro (tape cartridge), i drive USB e le schede di memoria Flash/Nand ed infine le unità di memorizzazione di rete, dagli economici NAS sino ai ben più costosi SAN/DAS.
